Chapter One
The three farmers
Boggis is a chicken farmer. He keeps thousands of chickens. He is enormously fat.Why? Simply because he eats three chickens every day for breakfast, lunch and supper.
Bunce is a duck-and-goose farmer. He keeps thousands of ducks and geese. He is a sort of pot-bellied dwarf. He is very short. His food is doughnuts and goose-livers. He mashes the livers into a disgusting paste and stuffes the paste into the doughnuts. That's why he has often got a tummy-ache and... a beastly temper.
Bean is a turkey-and-apple farmer. He keeps thousands of turkeys in an orchard full of apple trees. He never eats any food at all.Instead, he drinks gallons of strong cider. He is as thin as a pencil and the most intelligent of them all.
Boggis and Bunce and Bean
One fat, one short, one lean.
These horrible crooks
So different in looks
Were none the less equally mean.
