Chapter two

On a hill above the valley, there is a wood.
In the wood, there is a huge tree.
Under the tree, there is a hole.
In the hole live Mr Fox and Mrs Fox and their four small foxes.
Every evening Mr Fox asks: « What do you want for dinner, Darling?
A chicken from Boggis? A duck or a goose from Bunce? Or a nice turkey from Bean? »
And every evening , after Mrs Fox's answer, Mr Fox creeps down into the valley in the darkness of the night and helps himself.
Boggis and Bunce and Bean know very well that Mr Fox is a thief. They are so furious that every night they hide in a dark place with their shotgun. They hope to catch the robber.
But Mr Fox is too clever for them.
« Lousy beast! » Boggis says with rage.
« I'd like to rip his guts out! adds Bunce.
« You know », says Bean « We must kill this horrible fox! »
« But how? » asks Boggis; « How on earth can we catch the robber? »
Bean picks his nose delicately with a long finger. « I have a plan. », he says.
« You never have a correct plan, » says Bunce.
« Shut up and listen, » says Bean. Tomorrow night, You Bunce and You Boggis and I will hide outside the hole where the foxes live. We will wait there . And when he comes out. Then........Bang! Bang-bang-bang! »
« Very intelligent, » says Bunce. « But where is the hole? »
« My dear Bunce, I know where the hole is. It is up in the wood on the hill. It's under a huge tree. » says the crafty Bean.
